At the Thursday, February 5 regular city council meeting, Mayor Allegood recognized and swore in members of the City of Acworth's Planning and Zoning Commission, Cheno Echevarria and Jeff Steorts, who were re-appointed into their roles. The City of Acworth is incredibly grateful for the dedication that its volunteer board and commission members contribute to the city's quality of life each and every day!
On Thursday, November 13, Mayor Allegood and the City team joined the Save Acworth History Foundation at Depot Park to honor long-time Acworth residents Carolyn and Jimmy Durham with the 2025 Nancy Smith Maxwell Award. The Nancy Smith Maxwell Award, named after a the much-loved member of the Acworth community, was instituted in 2020 to be presented each year to honor someone who has made an outstanding contribution towards preserving the rich history and heritage of the Acworth community. At the Monday, November 10 special called council meeting, Chief Cheatham acknowledged and swore in Emma Carey as an Acworth Police Officer and congratulated her on obtaining her P.O.S.T. certification and graduating from the University of North Georgia with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Chief Cheatham also swore in Amanda Matthews as a Public Safety Liaison (PSL). Ms. Matthews' comes from Cobb County Animal Control and her new role as a PSL will involve transporting inmates for the Acworth Police Department.
At the Thursday, August 21 regular city council meeting, Sergeant Mistretta recognized Officer Mike Payne as Officer of the Quarter for his extraordinary dedication in honoring the legacy of one of our own, Fallen Officer Leonard Rainey. Former Officer Rainey was rightfully recognized on the Officer Down Memorial Page and included on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C., this year.
At the Thursday, August 21 Council Meeting, Sergeant Mistretta presented Acworth Public Safety Cadets with trophies acknowledging and celebrating their achievements in the National Training Conference in California, where over 98 teams participated in the highly competitive event. The Acworth Cadets placed 3rd in the Drill / Honor Guard Event and are commended for the incredible amount of work and level of effort, professionalism, and commitment demonstrated throughout the week.

On Thursday, December 5 at the Acworth Business Association's monthly luncheon, Mayor Allegood was honored to present the ABA Acworth Legacy award alongside a proclamation in recognition of Henry and Claudia Chandler for their impact on the Acworth Community. In addition to the announcement at the ABA Luncheon, Mayor Allegood also formally recognized Mr. and Mrs. Chandler at the Thursday, December 5 regular city council meeting. The Chandlers opened Henry's Louisiana Grill over two decades ago in Historic Downtown quickly establishing it as a cornerstone of the city's heart and landscape. READ MORE
