Mayor Allegood, Alderman Tim Houston, Alderwoman Kimberly Haase, and the City Team were thrilled to host a ribbon cutting on Thursday, March 19 in honor of the newly renovated North Cobb Rotary Club Learning & Leadership Center for the Acworth Expanding Horizons Program! This space, which had not been renovated since 2013, serves as a home-base for the Expanding Horizons and Acworth Achievers, and will continue to offer a positive and supportive environment to students for years to come.
The City is incredibly grateful to speakers Lewis Preston, President of the Expanding Horizons Foundation and Jose Gonzalez, President of the North Cobb Rotary Club for their support and dedication to this program and the renovation, as well as to Michelle Riles, President of the Acworth Achievers Student Council for her moving speech on the impact of these programs.
Youth Programming Coordinator and Expanding Horizons Program Leader Jordon Gonzalez, and Assistant Recreation Coordinator Trey Tidwell honored Alderman Tim Houston for his incredible legacy in creating what the program has become today. They also thanked their board members and partners, especially the North Cobb Rotary Club, for all of the incredible work that was put in to making this update a reality for current and future students.
The Acworth Expanding Horizons Program was created in 2006 to provide unique learning opportunities and mentorship through educational field trips, recreational activities and servant-leadership for Acworth’s local youth. The program is funded entirely from grants and donations through the generosity and support of others and is provided free of charge to participating students.
