Proclamation Recognizing Amateur Radio Week

Alderman Tim Richardson met with members of the Kennehoochee Amateur Radio Club on Saturday, June 28th, at Dallas Landing Park to present a proclamation from the City of Acworth declaring June 23–29 as Amateur Radio Week. The club gathered for their annual Field Day event, a nationwide exercise that highlights the importance of emergency communications preparedness by making two-way shortwave radio contacts with other amateur radio operators across the country.

Amateur, or “ham,” radio operators provide vital communication support during natural disasters and emergencies. They work closely with agencies such as the National Weather Service, FEMA, and the Military Auxiliary Radio System to ensure critical communication remains possible when conventional systems fail.
