Boards and Commissions
Acworth Development Authority
The Acworth Development Authority is a seven-member board appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for staggered terms of four years. The board members must be taxpayers residing in the City. The purpose of the development authority is to develop and promote trade, commerce, industry, and employment opportunities for the public good and the general welfare.
The Development Authority meets at such times and places as determined from time to time by the Authority or as called by the Chair or by a quorum of the Authority.
Acworth Downtown Development Authority
The Acworth Downtown Development Authority is a nine-member volunteer board appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for staggered terms of five years. Board members must be:
- Taxpayers residing in the City of Acworth
- Owners or operators of businesses located in the DDA district holding a valid Acworth Business License
- Owners of real property located within the DDA district
- Persons having a combination of the qualification specified above
The Acworth DDA meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall The Acworth DDA is an important tool in the redevelopment of downtown and plays an integral role in creating a vibrant, diverse, and relevant downtown.
Visit Acworth
Visit Acworth is a seven-member volunteer board appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for staggered terms of two years. Tourism meets the second Thursday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
The Acworth Tourism Bureau Authority primary purpose is to promote tourism and market the City of Acworth to visitors.
Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission is a three-member volunteer board appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for staggered terms of three years. Members must be City of Acworth residents. HPC meets quarterly the fourth Thursday at 12:00 PM, in the months of January, April, July and October.
The Historic Preservation Commission is charged with the responsibility of initiating local historic designations, the design review process for historic buildings and landmarks, public education and awareness, securing preservation related grant funding, and preservation planning and research.
Planning and Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission (P & Z) is a nine-member body consisting of residents of the city as appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. The Commission meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM.
The Commission is responsible for ensuring developments within the City are coordinated and harmonious with existing and future needs and consistent with the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The Commission reviews and recommends to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen matters relating to: rezonings, annexations, concept plans, site plans, subdivision plats, variances, special land use requests, land development plans and other such requests associated with land use within the City.
Acworth Lake Authority
The Authority is a five-member board where the elected Mayor serves as the Chairman. The remaining four members are appointed by the Mayor and Board to serve. They are a group of citizens that assist the City by providing citizen input and engagement into the operation, management, and the development of master plans for Federally leased properties around Lake Acworth.
The Lake Authority meets at the Acworth Community Center on the first Monday of the month at noon.
Acworth Tree Commission
The Commission is a five-member board appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for staggered terms of four years. The Commission is responsible for the annual Arbor Day program, planting of trees in the community, and the leading the efforts of the Acworth Community garden.
The Commission meets the second Tuesday of January, April, July, and October at 3:45 p.m. at the Acworth Community Center.
