Proclamation in Recognition of Coast Guard Auxiliary for National Safe Boating Week, May 18-24, 2024

At the Thursday, May 16 regular city council meeting, Alderman Prather presented the National Safe Boating Week Proclamation for May 18-24 to members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.  Greg Fonzeno, Division Chief and Victor Reyes, Secretary were recognized in acceptance of the proclamation. The purpose of the proclamation is to promote safe boating and to support the goals of the Safe Boating Campaign.

Proclamation in Recognition of National Travel and Tourism Week, May 19 -25, 2024

At the Thursday, May 18 regular city council meeting, Alderman Carmichael presented the National Travel and Tourism Week Proclamation for May 19-25 to members of the Acworth Tourism Bureau Authority (Visit Acworth). Chairman Jeff Green accepted the proclamation on behalf of the city. Tourism is the number one economic driver in Cobb County, and the City of Acworth celebrates the essential role it plays within the community.

Presentation of the Municipal Leader Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program Certificate to City Manager James Albright

At the Thursday, May 16 regular city council meeting, Freddie Broome, Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Director of Equity and Inclusion presented a Certificate of Completion for the GMA Municipal Leader Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Certificate Program to City Manager James Albright.  The certificate program consists of a rigorous nine months of in-person sessions, a Capstone Project, and additional tasks, whereas City Manager Albright joined sixty other municipal leaders across the state on May 9, 2024, in graduating from the program.

Proclamation in Recognition of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, May 2024

At the Thursday, May 16 regular city council meeting, Alderman Houston presented the Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month Proclamation for May to members of the Gena McLeod Memorial Foundation.  Donna Nunez, President, and other members of the Foundation were recognized in acceptance of the proclamation.  The mission of the foundation is to bring awareness and understanding of safety and legislation that impacts all motorcyclists, whereas all motor vehicle operators are urged to join the effort to keep our highways safe.

Ribbon Cutting Celebrating Ruby McCray Gazebo at Logan Farm Park

On Thursday, May 16, Mayor Allegood, the Save Acworth History Foundation, and members of the community celebrated a ribbon cutting at Logan Farm Park with Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department in honor of the Ruby McCray Gazebo. Mrs. McCray was a lifelong resident of Acworth, and the gazebo sits just below the McCray homestead. The City looks forward to this beautiful addition to the park that residents and visitors will be able to enjoy for many years to come!

Ribbon Cutting Celebrating Charlie’s Angels Charity Truck

On Thursday, May 16, Mayor Allegood and the City Team, with the Acworth Business Association, celebrated a grand opening ribbon cutting for Charlie's Angels Movers new charity truck and non-profit. Charlie and her team are making it their mission to meet people at their needs to give back to the community. Recognition of Petrina Fowler, 2024 Recipient of the School Social Worker of the Year for the State of Georgia

At the Thursday, May 2 regular city council meeting, Alderman Houston presented a proclamation to Petrina Fowler in recognition of being the 2024 recipient of the School Social Worker of the Year for the State of Georgia.  Ms. Fowler was recognized for her outstanding service and commitment to the profession of school social work, in addition to her support of the students and families of Barber Middle School and the Acworth community.
