Regina Russell, City Clerk of Acworth, Georgia, has been elected to serve as the President of the Georgia Municipal Clerks Association (GMCA) for 2023. President Russell was sworn in during the Annual Business Meeting on February 6 at Jekyll Island. Ms. Russell has been a member of GMCA for many years and has served on the GMCA Board of Directors since 2015. Mayor Allegood presented the Georgia Day Proclamation to the Liberty Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Melinda Allen accepted the proclamation and commended the City on it's proper use and display of the American Flag. All Georgians are invited to rediscover our state's natural and historical wonders and sites as February 12th has been proclaimed Georgia Day.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 116 and Cub Scout Pack 730 led the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance at the February 2nd City Council Meeting. The Scouts also received a proclamation in recognition of the 113th anniversary of the Scouts.
Chief Evans performed the oath of office and swearing in for Lieutenant Jason LaRocque. Family, friends and members of the Acworth Police Department were in attendance for the ceremony. Chief Evans commended Lt. Larocque on his twenty years of service with the City of Acworth, his years as a K9 handler, multiple certifications, many hours of training and his commitment to instructing new officers. Lt. Larocque will lead the Office of Professional Standards within the Acworth Police Department.
Deputy City Manager Diana DeSanto recognized Christine Tilling for 10 years of service to the City of Acworth. Christine is an accountant in the Finance Department and is tasked with the most important job... payroll! She has helped lead the effort within City Hall to go paperless and assisted with the destruction of many years of outdated paperwork. Christine is a great asset to the City, not just for her accounting skills, but also for her friendship to fellow employees.
On a foggy Tuesday, January 31 morning, Mayor Allegood and the City Team were excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the model home grand opening at the new Heritage development at 4318 Southside Drive in the Parkside District. These new homes by The JW Collection are looking beautiful downtown!
