Ribbon Cutting Celebrating New Mobi-Mat at Dallas Landing Park
On Friday, April 12, Mayor Allegood, the Special Needs Development Group, and Acworth Parks, Recreation, and Community Resource Department gathered at Dallas Landing Park for a ribbon cutting celebrating the new Mobi-Mat accessible path improving beach access at the park on Lake Allatoona.
The Special Needs Development Group(SNDG) board saw a need to upgrade the aged concrete ramp at Dallas Landing Park which provided accessibility into the water. It has been replaced with a Mob-Mat, a versatile pathway that will provide ease of access for users with wheelchairs, strollers, and walkers into the lake for years to come. This generous investment included the removal of the old concrete, repouring of broken concrete bordering the parking lot, and reconfiguration and restriping of the handicapped parking spots leading up to the Mobi-Mat. While the SNDG funded this effort, the City of Acworth was able to assist with portions of the renovations in-house.
The mission of the Special Needs Development Group is to provide children and adults with physical, social, and cognitive disabilities the opportunity to participate in athletic, social, and cultural events while developing lasting relationships among their peers, coaches, and parents, and showing that they are an important part of their community by creating an environment of inclusion.
