Presentation of Life Saving Award to Officer Tamara Severtson
At the Thursday, June 20 regular city council meeting, Chief Jesse Evans presented Officer Tamara Severtson with a Life Saving Award in honor of her efforts to save an elderly woman’s life last spring. On March 19th, 2024, E911 officers were notified of an elderly woman in distress at Brickmont of Acworth. The caller informed that the victim was choking and was no longer conscious. Officer Severtson arrived at the scene and used her own personal LifeVac choking device to effectively dislodge the obstruction, freeing up the airway and allowing the victim to regain consciousness. Her quick thinking and immediate response, along with the utilization of the LifeVac Choking device, prevented the victim from going into cardiac arrest and ultimately saved their life. As a result of her life-saving efforts, Officer Tamara Severtson was nominated by the Police Department for the Police Hall of Fame and was subsequently awarded this honor. Since the event on March 19, the Acworth Police Department has ordered LifeVac choking devices to equip all officers.
