Evans to return to District Attorney’s Office, Cheatham to become next Acworth Chief of Police
Acworth, Georgia. Chief Jesse Evans has announced his return to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office effective, Friday, January 3. Evans returns to his roots where he spent 20 years of his career in law enforcement. Mayor Tommy Allegood said, “Chief Evans has served our community incredibly well. He has brought invaluable experience and significantly contributed to the continued professionalism of our Police Department. He will be missed tremendously, but we know that he will return to a position that makes the Cobb County law enforcement community better as a whole.”
Last evening, Mark Cheatham was appointed and sworn in as interim Chief of Police and Chief Evans was appointed Interim Director of Public Safety for the remainder of his service to the city.
Interim Chief Cheatham has served the City of Acworth since 2001 where he began his career as an Officer. He worked his way through the ranks of Officer, to Detective, to Sergeant, to Lieutenant, to Captain, and to his latest position as Major. “Mark loves and cares for the Acworth Police Department and our City as a whole. He has committed his career to making us better. We have complete confidence in his leadership and skills to continue to move us forward as an organization.” said Allegood.
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen will hold a special called meeting on Monday, January 6 at 10:00 a.m. to formally appoint and swear in Interim Chief Cheatham as the city’s next Chief of Police.
