DESCRIPTION:The City of Acworth invites everyone to join us for our 13th Annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday\, December 16 at 6:00 p.m. at Doyal Hill Park and the Acworth Rosenwald School.  Rabbi Zalman Charytan from the Chabad Jewish Center will officiate the lighting with Mayor Tommy Allegood. \nThe eight day Jewish holiday commemorates the Jewish Maccabees’ military victory over Syrian-Greek oppression more than 2\,000 years ago. During Chanukah\, Jews across the world celebrate the miracle of light that burned for eight days out of a single-days-worth of oil found in the Temple. One Chanukah candle is lit the first night and an additional candle is lit each successive night. The holiday is a celebration of religious freedom and hope.

DESCRIPTION:Turn a day off into a day on in Acworth! The Acworth MLK Celebration and Day of Service will be held Monday\, January 19\, 2026. Everyone is invited to join the City for a light welcome breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the Roberts School Community and Education Center.  Following the welcome breakfast\, the Unity Walk will begin at 9:15 a.m. and leave from the Roberts School and finish at the Acworth Community Center.A program honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Tanyard Creek Overlook at the Acworth Community Center. After the program concludes\, guests can join this years’ service project in partnership with Georgia Kids Belong. See more details on the service project and donation drive below. \nLeading up to the event\, the Acworth Parks\, Recreation and Community Resource Department will hold donation drives for Family Fun Night & Hygiene Kits to support foster families in the Acworth community with Georgia Kids Belong. Donations can be dropped off at the Acworth Community Center. \nItems Needed: \n\nFamily Fun Nights Donation Drive: New or gently used card games\, board games\, decks of cards\, dice\, puzzles\, popcorn\, sudoku\, books\, crossword puzzles\, etc.\nHygiene Kit Donation Drive: Toiletry bags/Ziploc\, toothbrush\, toothpaste\, small hairbrush\, small lotion\, wash cloth\, ChapStick\, small body wash\, small shampoo\, deodorant.\n\nDay-of Service Projects: \n\nSort donated items for family fun nights and hygiene kits.\n‘Cards for Kids in Care’ Making Station: Create encouraging and uplifting cards for foster kids with words of love and support that show them they belong.\n‘Belong Bracelets’ Making Station: Foster kids participating in the I Belong Project receive “Belong Bracelets” similar to friendship bracelets that show love and care from the community. Bracelets can include words of encouragement like hope\, belong and brave etc.\n\nMLK Day of Service merchandise will be for sale at the Acworth Community Center leading up to and on the day of the event. All proceeds will go towards the Acworth Expanding Horizons Foundation Inc to support the Expanding Horizons and Acworth Achievers programs. DESCRIPTION:The Special Olympics Polar Plunge\, hosted by the Law Enforcement Torch Run For Georgia\, will take place again at Acworth Beach at Cauble Park will return on Saturday\, February 21\, 2026. \nThe purpose behind the Polar Plunge is to support and spread awareness for the 17\,429 Special Olympics Georgia athletes. The Polar Plunge is the largest fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics. Many states across the nation participate in this annual event through the efforts of their Law Enforcement Torch Run program. The Polar Plunge is an official Law Enforcement Torch Run event. \nAnyone with a little guts and a warm heart wanting to support the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia is welcome to participate! Participants collect pledges from friends and family in exchange for the opportunity to jump into icy waters in the middle of winter. All proceeds collected by plungers will benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia.
